My diaper bag is my saving grace. It contains all the stuff I would need in case something goes a little unexpected, which it does MOST of the time. I don’t love to put everything and anything in there, I like it to be simple and pack stuff that actually gets used. Keeping only essentials in your diaper bag is key!
When you fill your diaper bag with unnecessary items, you can get frustrated when you can’t find something when you need it. And you know those toddlers aren’t the most patient little people.
I usually just keep my diaper bag in the car and only bring it in if I need to restock on snacks, diapers, wipes, etc. Having it in the car makes it more convenient and it gives me one less thing to drag out to the car. We ALL know how getting kids in the car can be a real pain in the arse, so having to not think about that makes it less stressful.
Below I have listed my favorite essentials that I keep in my diaper bag and that I use almost everyday.
Essential Item #1: Diapers & Wipes (obvi)
It makes sense to have diapers in a diaper bag. 😉 During the summer time I keep a few swimming diapers in there as well. Wipes are a life saver and have come in handy mulitple times. I have way too many stories of forgetting wipes and assuming someone else will have them. Don’t ever assume! I’m the mom you’ve seen in the public restroom trying to get the paper towels wet and trying to wipe my toddlers bum because doe doe brain forgot the wipes! It’s a total sh*t show. Literally. So #1 essential…diapers & wipes!
Essential Item #2: SNACKS
I try and be a really good mom and pack my kids the healthy stuff and also love packing snacks that are easy and convenient. We have been packing squeezies (what we call them) in my diaper bag since my 6 year old was old enough to eat solids. They are seriously the best and so easy to just grab and go. We have recently tried out Go and Grow by Similac pouches and my kids LOVE them! Sometimes I’ll even eat them, no joke!
Having something for my kids to eat is what keeps them happy and entertained while running errands so they are 100% essential! I also feel good about myself as a mom knowing that the Go and Grow by Similac pouches are the only toddler fruit and veggie puree pouches with OptiGRO, our brain- and eye-nourishing blend of DHA, Lutein, and Vitamin E in forms similar to common foods. Each pouch has 3-4 servings of combined fruits and veggies, at least 1/3 the daily recommended servings for your toddler. I mean, WINNING!
My kids love picking out their own flavors at the store and they are conveniently located at Walmart!
Here are the flavors that they offer for toddlers and babies.

My kids are OBSESSED with ANY kind of drink, so we ALWAYS have to pack a drink in the diaper bag. Go and Grow by Similac offers a toddler mealtime drink that we have recently tried and my kids think its SO good. They are available in cans or powdered stick form. My kids loved the vanilla flavor and it’s a perfect way to get them to eat more nutrients! They think it’s a milkshake. Little do they know…..

Essential Item #3: Hand Sanitizer
This is a must. I used to never carry this around until someone gave me a travel size one and now I’m addicted! Your kids touch so many germy things and then put their hands in their mouth so it gives me comfort knowing that I’m killing SOME of the germs! I love the spray kind from Honest. The orange one smells divine!
Essential Item #4: Little Toys/Books
My one year old is still teething so I always have some sort of teething toy in my bag. I also like to pack one or two small books. My kids love looking through them and it keeps them entertained for a good 2-5 minutes haha! They especially love the finger puppet books. They think they are hilarious.
Essential Item #5: Changing Pad
A lot of diaper bags come with a changing pad, but if yours doesn’t it definitely helps to have one! I have been in way too many bathrooms where they don’t have a changing table and I’ve had to lay my kid on the sick nasty floor. And why the heck doesn’t EVERY bathroom have a changing table?!?! Boggles my mind…
Essential Item #6: Tylenol/Ibuprofen
I buy the chewable tablets of these frequently. If my kid gets hurt and is in pain, running a fever, teething, etc., these will make a world of difference while you’re out and about. My kids love the chewable kind way more than the liquid and they think it’s candy when I give it to them. I think every mom should have these packed away in their diaper bag.
Essential Item #7: Stuff for Mama
Don’t forget about yourself! You’ll need your wallet, cell phone, sunglasses, keys, a big A Diet Coke in a foam cup and a whole lotta chocolate!
Good luck out there! We are rooting for you!
