I love to ask other moms cleaning hacks, tips and ways to make it easier and less overwhelming to keep my home clean. My dream would be to have my house look like no one lived in it. BUT…that is clearly impossible with children. They are constantly getting out food and running round dropping crumbs as they go, they are throwing their clothes on the floor, leaving backpacks wherever, brushing their teeth and leaving half of the toothpaste bottle in the sink, and we could go on and on.
So instead let’s get down to some of my top cleaning tips and hacks to help all of us overwhelmed moms. And the best tip is to try and smile while doing it and realizing that guess what it won’t look like no one lives there because if it did we wouldn’t love it or call it HOME.
Cleaning Hack #1: Organize Your Cleaning Products
First and foremost go through your cleaning products and get rid of any you don’t need or aren’t safe for your family. The makers of Open Nature™ brand recently added a new line of cleaning products. Open Nature™ household cleaning and care products are now available in the Las Vegas/Henderson area exclusively at all Albertson’s and Von’s stores. If you don’t live nearby but still want to buy Open Nature cleaning supplies, no problem! You can also find them at all Albertsons Companies family of stores, including ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Shaw’s, Star Market, and Carrs/Safeway.stores. These products can now replace your old cleaning products because they are safe for both your home and family. They carry window cleaners, paper towels, hand soaps, and so much more and all are used with 100% recycled paper.
Take all of your cleaning products that you use to clean your home put them in a bucket or something that is easy to bring with you from room to room. Then put the bucket and all larger items that can stay put in a cupboard of your choice. I know most people love to put them under the sink.
Cleaning Hack #2: How to Keep A Clean House Schedule?
When you wake up in the morning and either have a list or know exactly what needs to be done for the day you will be much more productive. I have a fabulous cleaning schedule you can print out that will help you stay motivated and not get side tracked. I love to make myself a daily, weekly, and monthly schedule.
Cleaning Hacks #3: Vacuum
One of my favorite cleaning tips is if you have a two story house, have a vacuum on each level. This has been my saving grace. It is quicker and easier for me to vacuum and I will do it more often if it is more accessible. Also many children cannot carry the vacuum up and down stairs. This way your children have no excuse when you ask them to vacuum their room.
Cleaning Hacks #4: What is All Purpose Cleaner Used for?
When I found Open Nature’s all purpose lemon cleaner I was thrilled because it makes life so much easier. All Purpose means that in my bucket I do not have as many cleaners. I can clean all of my sinks, my window sills, showers, and other places all with one cleaner.
Cleaning Hacks #5: Dishwasher Cleaning
Do not waste your time cleaning things that the dishwasher can do for you for instance:
- sponges, cleaning brushes
- glass globes and shades from light fixtures
- stove top
Doing this will save you time and energy.
Cleaning Hacks #6: Have a Carryall on Your Stairs
I have this basket on the bottom of my stairs as well as the top of my stairs. This way when it gets full it is easier to disperse the stuff rather than wasting time going to put one thing away upstairs. Also another cute thing is it put these buckets on each stair with the birth order number of each of your children on it that way it is easy for each of them to grab their stuff from the bucket and put it away.
Cleaning Hacks #7: Teach Your Kids to Clean with You
Make your load lighter but allowing your kids the opportunity to help you clean. It is teaching them so many life lessons as well as making your life easier. In my house I believe they need to earn their keep. wink wink. No but for reals there is absolutely no reason children should not learn to pick up after themselves as well as their siblings. The mom does the cooking and laundry not just for herself so children can too.
Cleaning Hacks #8: Do Not Leave Dishes for Later
Even if you are exhausted do not leave your dishes for later. The food cakes on and you will want to do it less later on. I have tried leaving it and it doesn’t make it any easier to do it later. Open Nature has an excellent fragrance and dye free dish soap. It is for sure helpful to clean off the toughest of stains.
Cleaning Hacks #9: Work Smart Not Hard
Let the jobs that can be done on their own work while you are sleeping. As a mother we need to learn the places where we can work smart and not hard. We are already working our tails off just getting these sweet angels raised. So for example:
1.Put a load of laundry in and start it. I have never had an issue with mildewy clothes after only one night but if you do, try and move them to dryer right before you are getting into bed. Here is an excellent laundry schedule to help with the overwhelm of laundry that never ends.
2. If you are lucky enough to have this vacuum then start it right before getting into bed and WALA your house is vacuumed when you wake up.
3. Start the dishwasher. This way when you get up in the morning you have a load of clean dishes and can start your day with just putting them away rather than loading and waiting for it to clean itself.
Head out to your local Albertson’s and get started with cleaning hack #1 organizing those cleaning products and making it convenient for you!
Now lets not overwhelm our busy selves more than we already are. Try to smile and enjoy yourself while cleaning. Remember how lucky you are to be a mom and get to clean a place with a roof over your head. Hey, if we have to do it might as well try and make it enjoyable, right?
